COMPANIA GITANA FAMILIA SANCHEZ CORTES

The first romantic travellers, probably our firsts tourists, left their mark in their writings of the suprise and enchantment produced, in them, by the exotism of a passionate and hospitable Andalucía, that had in flamenco a common denominator of the most authentic popular expression and different in respect to other peoples.

In it, as time went by, flamenco has passed by various states of 'gracia' until arriving at the actual moment of great diffusion and international and national recognition. More than 20 million tourists arrive at Andalucía every year attracted by different motivations, the sun and beach, golf, congresses, conventions, incentives, nature, monuments, gastronomy, rural world, health, etc.;and nearly all have a reference (although it may be vague) or even have lived (although not authentically) flamenco.

There are still very few who, in a illustrated and planned form, come to Andalucia to enjoy the flamenco tourism. It is our intention that those who wish to know flamenco in Andalucia by tourism, find in this site, ordered and varied references that help you know by a incipient form, of the great cultural and festive treasure, that flamenco supposes.

Our pretension is to offer the traveller who plans to visit Andalucía, to those who are travelling through or simply living in it, a useful and colourful tool, to start to know the history of flamenco and to learn to differentiate one style from another, and at the same time dispose of the necessary addresses and activities that favour, in many cases, a first contact with Flamenco in Andalucía

COMPANIA GITANA FAMILIA SANCHEZ CORTES

Saray Cortés Giménez nace en Barcelona en el año 1982.

Comienza su actividad artística como bailaora, y su formación técnica a la temprana edad de 5 años, tomando clases con su madre, la Salinera, de reconocida trayectoria como artista y docente.

También toma clases de ballet y clásico con Susana Peña hasta los 15 años. Y con 12 años, debuta en un cuadro flamenco, "Temperamento", y con él recorre España. A los 16 años estrena su propio cuadro flamenco, y lo presenta en Tenerife durante 3 años.

Recoge buenas críticas con sus actuaciones en el teatro Queen Elizabeth, de Londres. Más tarde será contratada como primera bailarina en la Sala Exit Palace, de la isla de Tenerife. Actuando alli 2 años. Paralelamente continúa su formación académica para lo cual se traslada a Sevilla y estudia allí con Manuel Betanzos y Soraya Clavijo.

Es co-fundadora, junto a La Salinera y Antonio de Verónica, de la compañía flamenca "Familia Sánchez Cortés". Con ella y con el espectáculo "Calor de piedra", se estrena en marzo del 2005 en el Teatro Guimera , de Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Se dedica a la docencia en la academia que comparte con Antonio de Verónica en la ciudad de Málaga, incluyendo talleres que imparte en las giras de la compañía.

Entre otros proyectos prevé una gira artística por Alemania, Inglaterra y Latinoamérica con el espectáculo Calor de Piedra, que es un recorrido por la historia y los palos del flamenco, donde cada artista imprime su creatividad y pasión personal a los cuadros, que cuentan con la participación de 15 personas, entre bailaores, cantaoras, palmeros y musicos.

Our family Sanchez - Cortez has presented flamenco for four generations in its purest form protecting it's history and traditions. As generations come and go flamenco will always be at the centre of our lives. It is the life we live, our life and we feel a need to transmit this to the others. Our show is a pure expression of ourselves from beginning to end. We present ourselves without artifice to allow our audiences to see us as we really are - genuine and free.

Antonio de Veronica
Born in Malaga 1984. Began dancing aged 7. Later began touring at various theatres in Malaga province. Received dance tuition from established flamenco artists: Rafael Amargo, Antonio El Pipa, Doraya Clavijo, Marcos Flores, Rafael de Carmen and Juana Amaya. Antonio also teaches flamenco.

Saray Cortes Gimenez
Born in Barcelona 1982. Began her dancing career at age 5, receiving the lessons from her Mother, La Salinera, known for her artistic and tutoring achievements.
Received excellent reviews after performing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, London. Later was First Dancer for two years at the Sala Exit Palace, Tenerife.
She continues her training in Seville with tuition and supervision from Manolo Betanzos and Soraya Clavijo.
